The hotel industry has been one of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Hoteliers and other hospitality professionals are now being called to adapt to the new reality and while the restart of the industry is inevitable, the road to recovery is predicted to be a long one. What actions can hotel industry professionals and governments around the world take to revive tourism and restore the hotel industry to its former glory? What are the key success factors that everyone needs to consider in order to stay relevant and recover? All the latest local and international developments and trends in the hotel and tourism industries will be highlighted at this year’s Summit.
The annual summit of the Cyprus Hotel Association is a key event for the hotel and tourism industries in Cyprus and is long established as the biggest annual meeting of industry professionals and executives. The summit will include a Products & Services exhibition area, where visitors and participants will have the opportunity to network with representatives from companies and organisations in the field. The Cyprus Hotel Association, in collaboration with IMH, is organising the 43rd Cyprus Hotel Summit & Exhibition on June 29, 2021 at the Hilton Nicosia.

President, Cyprus Hotel Association
He graduated from the University of Manchester in Economics with specialization in Business Finance.
He holds the position of the President of the Cyprus Hotel Association from 2003 until today, as well as the position of the Deputy President of the Cyprus Football Association. During the period 1999-2003 he was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cyprus Airways. He is an active member in the family businesses that cover the sectors of Tourism, Construction & Development Projects.

Evgenios Evgeniou is Chairman of Invest Cyprus, non-executive director in financial services, Chairman of Nicosia for Art, member of the Corporate Governance committee of the ICAEW. Had a 31-year career with PwC, served as Chairman and Senior Partner of PwC Cyprus (2012-2021) and member of the PwC EMEA Leadership (2014 - 2021) representing fifteen European territories. Beyond commercial success, key achievements included: technological transformation; developing the data analytics, Cyber security, and AI capabilities; launching the PwC Experience Centre. An Imperial College London Engineering graduate (BEng), a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA), completed the Harvard Direct Leadership program. In 2024 he earned the MA in International Affairs (Strategic Studies) from King's College London and the INSEAD Certificate in Corporate Governance.


Constantinos Petrides assumed office as Minister of Finance of the Republic of Cyprus on the 3rd of December 2019. Prior to his appointment, he served as Minister of Interior (1 May 2017 - 3 December 2019) and Deputy Minister to the President of the Republic of Cyprus (1st March 2013 – 30 April 2017). From September 2011 to February 2013 was the Director of the Office of the President of the Democratic Rally. In 2006 he was hired at the European Commission in Brussels where he worked as an economist at the Directorate-General for Agriculture and the Directorate General for Competition until September 2011. He studied Economics at the University of Nottingham and then acquired an MSc in Political Economy of Transition in Europe from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences.

Taras Demura was born on 17th of December in Kiev, Ukraine. He graduated from the International Economic Christian University with a degree in international business and European University of Finance, Information Systems, Management and Business with a degree in foreign economic activity management. PhD in Economics. He has worked in various organizations of the tourism industry. From 2002 to 2006 he worked on creating the first franchise network of travel agencies and the tour operator "Voyage-Kiev" in Ukraine. He was the first Deputy Head of the State Service for Tourism and Resorts of Ukraine from 2006 to 2009. In 2009 until 2014 he was the Distribution Director for TUI Ukraine and from 2014 – 2015 the Marketing and Sales Director. In 2015 to 2016 he was the General Manager for TUI Ukraine and from 2016 until today he is the General Manager LLC «TT-Travel» for TUI Russia & CIS. He was also awarded with Honorary Diplomas of the Federal Agency for Tourism for the contribution to solving current problems in the development of domestic and inbound tourism in the Russian Federation and for active work on the development and practical implementation of the security system for Russian tourists abroad. Taras Demura is a member: of the Commission for the Tourism Industry of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Supervisory Board of the Tourpomosh Association, the Board of the Russian Union of Travel Industry, the Presidium of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR).

Sven Schikarsky is the Chief Product Officer of DER Touristik Deutschland GmbH. He is responsible for product and trading of all destinations within the portfolio of DER Touristik Deutschland GmbH. Additionally, he is responsible for Capacity and Revenue Management. He has extensive experience working in senior positions within the Tourism Industry.

Director of Hotel Product and Purchasing East Of The World, Product and Purchasing, Board Member, TUI GROUP, German
21 years of ever increasing responsibility at the director and VP level at country level, region level (CEE, Russia, EU) and global/international level. Since 2011 employed by TUI Group, biggest travel company in the world with 27 million customers and 19 billion turnover, currently in the band 2 global/international function based in Hannover (Germany) and Istanbul (TR). Proven leader with top 1% team engagement scores across the Group with teams based in over 20 countries with over 16 different nationalities. Current function a truly international one with accountability of hotel (accommodation/product) purchasing in more than 25 overseas destinations (e.g. Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Italy, etc.) which requires in depth knowledge of primary source markets (e.g. UK, Germany, Russia, Benelux, USA etc.). Highly complex function with high end financial and commercial accountability and risk, together with mass cross border people management. Haris Theocharous was born in Famagusta in 1972. He graduated from Les Roches International School of Hotel Management in Switzerland with Merit. He continued his studies at Ivy League, Cornell University in the USA - hospitality management - where he graduated with academic excellence. He has worked in various luxury hotels in Davos, St. Moritz, Dusseldorf, New York and Santa Barbara. Today he is the CEO of Hawaii Hotels and the GrandResort Hotel in Limassol, the Treasurer of the Cyprus Hotel Association (CHA) and the Chairman of the Limassol District Committee, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Limassol Tourism Company.

Chief Commercial Officer, Wizz Air, Switzerland
Mr. Michalopoulos joined Wizz Air in 2010 as Head of Pricing and Revenue Management and was then promoted to Head of Network Development, Scheduling and Sales in May 2015. Prior to WIZZ, Mr. Michalopoulos built an extensive commercial and revenue management career at Flybaboo and Blu-Express. Mr. Michalopoulos is a Swiss, British and Greek citizen and holds both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.

Chief Commercial Officer, Aegean Airlines, Greece
Roland Jaggi is a Swiss citizen who started his airline career at Swissair. After 12 years in Sales and Revenue Management he moved in 2006 to Athens based Aegean Airlines where he has built up the Revenue Management and Pricing teams. Over the years his responsibilities have been growing and since fall 2018 he is now leading the entire Commercial Organization of Aegean Airlines.


Commercial Director, Marketing & Sales, Condor Airlines, Germany
Since nearly five years Paul has been serving as commercial director with responsibilities covering sales and key account management, retail, marketing and eCommerce including Condor’s own website www.condor.com. The key mission is to further strengthen the excellent relations with Condor’s tour operator customers and retail partners and at the same time exploit online sales opportunities. Paul has started his business career at Lufthansa’s airline management training and served in various management assignments in the fields of sales, marketing, product, service and planning. For several years he acted as managing director of Fischer Reisen, a medium sized tour operator in Germany, followed by 15 years as CEO of SunExpress, a Turkish German joint venture airline. On behalf of Lufthansa, Paul was member of Austrian Airlines’ supervisory board for 3 years. Paul, his wife and their daughter and son live in Frankfurt.

Maria Kouroupi joined Hermes Airports in 2009 bringing along over 20 years of experience in the airline industry. She has held the role of Senior Manager Aviation Development, Marketing and Communication since 2013. Maria has extensive experience in aviation development as well as marketing management. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a holder of its Diploma. She is also a holder of two MBA degrees one from the University of Abertay Dundee in Scotland, and one from the Cyprus International Institute of Management. Whilst leading the air service development at both Larnaka and Pafos airports, Maria is also responsible for corporate communication, digital strategies, as well as media and community outreach. She is also a member of the Board of CSR Cyprus as well as the Economic committee of ACI. With a special interest in destination branding, and innovative marketing practices, she is determined to contribute to the collective efforts of transforming the tourism experience in Cyprus and creating demand to support sustainable growth of air connectivity on the island.

Sofia Zacharaki was appointed Deputy Minister for Tourism Education and Special forms of Tourism on January 2021. She previously held the office of Deputy Minister of Education and Religious Affairs from July 2019 to January 2021. Before her appointment, she served as the spokesperson for Nea Demokratia, the then leading opposition Centre-right party in Greece, an EPP member party. Previous to that and for more than 2 years, Sofia was the party’s deputy spokesperson. Prior to that, in 2012 until 2014 she was the European and International Affairs advisor to the Minister of Development and participated in the preparation of the Greek Presidency of the Council of the European Union. A state department programme alumnus, in 2015 she represented Greece in the International Leadership Visitor Programme in the USA in the field of “The role of Private Public Partnerships in restructuring economies”. In the past, she worked as a teacher in state and private schools in Greece, as a European Affairs executive in the Greek Ministry of Education and the Secretariat for lifelong learning and youth policies.

Secretary of State for Tourism, Portugal
Rita Marques holds a degree (1998) and a master’s degree (2000) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Porto’s School of Engineering and has an MBA (2007) from the University of Southern California. She has also completed several executive leadership programmes held at the Instituto de Empresa Business School (2018), London Business School (2017) and the University of Texas at Austin (2016). She was the CEO of Portugal Ventures (2018-2019), Executive Director of Porto Business School’s MBA and Post Graduate programmes (2016-2018), Coordinator of the University of Porto’s Project Unit (2008-2016) and Manager of the Asia-Pacific Market and of the Technology and Tourism sectors at Agência Portuguesa para o Investimento (2003-2006). She was also Senior Consultant at Microsoft Corporation (2006-2007), in the United States, and specialist at ANACOM (2001-2003). Additionally, she was the Chair of the Portuguese Youth Foundation Supervisory Board up to 2019 and provided consultancy services to several public and private entities related to innovation, public financing, internationalisation and foreign direct investment. Rita Marques is presently the Secretary of State for Tourism of the XXII Portuguese Government, appointed since 26th October 2019.

Yiannis Karousos was born on 21 November 1979 in Ayia Napa. He holds a BSc (Hons) in International Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of Surrey, UK, where he specialized in strategic development of tourist destinations. Additionally, he holds an MBA (Joint) from the French ESSEC Business School and Cornell University, USA. He has also been awarded the tittle of Chartered Marketer from the UK Chartered Institute of Marketing. Prior to his appointment as a Minister of Transport, Communications and Works on December 3, 2019, he served as the Mayor of Ayia Napa (2013 - 2019) and as Municipal Councilor of Ayia Napa (2006 - 2013). He also assumed the positions of the President of the Famagusta Province Tourism Development and Promotion Society, the President of the Ayia Napa Sewerage Board and the President of the Ayia Napa - Paralimni Sewerage Board Consortium. He was the founder and President of the Youth Council of Ayia Napa, he served as Chairman of the Tourism Committee and as a member of the Cultural Committee of Ayia Napa Municipality. Additionally, he was a member of the Board of the Charitable Foundation ‘Despina’, which supports children with diabetes. He is married to Maria Anastasi with whom they have two children.

President, HOTREC, Denmark
Mr Jens Zimmer Christensen is a member of HOTREC Executive Committee since 2016 and Chairman of HORESTA Denmark since 2009, the trade association representing the Danish hospitality sector. He comes with a vast experience in tourism and hospitality, among others as Owner and Manager of Hotel Maritime in Copenhagen and as member of the Executive Board of the Confederation of Danish Employers.

Director, Market Management for Greece, Cyprus & East Adriatic, Expedia Group
Vasiliki is the Director Market Management Lodging for Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria and East Adriatic in Expedia Group. Previously, Vasiliki worked as Global Head of Distribution & Operations for Tink Labs, an IoT hospitality solution for hoteliers. She has also worked as General Manager at Digital Ecosystems and at the Royal Olympic hotel, Athens. Prior to this, Vasiliki, held the position of Director for Market Management Greece, Turkey and Cyprus for Expedia Group. Vasiliki lectures in Marketing Communications & Digital Marketing and leads various mentoring programs to support entrepreneurs in travel and hospitality industry. She holds a master’s in digital marketing from University of Plymouth and a post grad in Business Administration from University of Leicester.

Petros Mylonas studied Civil Engineering, but the Tourism Industry won him over. Back in 2000 he joined Louis Tourist Agency and after 10 successful years he moved on to Hotelbeds. Petros was Hotelbeds Contracts Manager looking after Cyprus for 5 years and then was promoted to a Regional Manager and relocated to Greece. During covid he returned to Cyprus. Currently he is leading a team of 14 people looking after South Greece & Cyprus handling a portfolio of 1,200 hotels spread mainly between Crete, Rhodes, Kos & Cyprus.

Chief Commercial Officer, KOKARI LTD, Greece
Konstantinos Kanaras has received his BA in Tourism & Management Studies. During the years he has held important positions in quite successful companies of the tourism sector, such as Executive Director in Ledra Hotels and Villas SA, General Manager of Sales & Marketing in Porto Carras Grand Resort and Director of Sales in Aldemar Group. Since 2016, he is a member of Knossians Group, as Chief Commercial Officer. Knossians Group owns & operates two Luxury Collection hotels in Sofia (Sofia Hotel Balkan) & Belgrade (Metropol Palace Hotel), also one Accor – MGallery hotel in Sofia (Maison Sofia Hotel), the Grand Hyatt in Athens and 5 resort hotels in the island of CRETE.

President, SETE-Greek Tourism Confederation, Greece
Yiannis Retsos was born in Athens in 1969. He is a graduate of School of Law, University of Athens and holds a postgraduate degree in Hotel Management, from Cornell University, specializing in Hospitality Real Estate Finance. He is the CEO and one of the major shareholders of Electra Hotels & Resorts, which operates six hotels in Athens, Thessaloniki, Rhodes and Kefalonia. Yiannis Retsos was elected President of SETE - Greek Tourism Confederation in May 2017. In March 2020 he was appointed Member of the General Council of the Bank of Greece. From April 2011 until July 2017, he was the Chairman of the Hellenic Hotelier Federation.

President, Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, Greece
Alexandros Vassilikos was born in Athens in 1976 and studied Economics in Nantes and London. In 2002, following the demise of the founder of AIROTEL Group of Hotels Efstratios Vassilikos, he assumed the position of Chairman and CEO and envisioned the new corporate strategy aiming to the further growth of the Group. He has successfully implemented his plan for expansion and modernization of the Group, establishing AIROTEL as one of the largest Greek hotel companies now managing six hotels in Athens, Patra and Kavala. Since 2018 Alexandros Vassilikos holds the position of President of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels. In 2018 he was also elected as a member of the Executive Committee of HOTREC, the umbrella Association of Hotels, Restaurants, Pubs and Cafes and similar establishments in Europe. He has served as a member of the Board of the Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE) and of the Hellenic Hoteliers Federation, Vice President of Marketing Greece and an economic consultant to the French Embassy in Athens.

Philokypros Roussounides was born in 1978 and holds an MBA International Business from London Southbank University in the United Kingdom. He has many years of experience in senior management positions in large companies such as DHI GLOBAL MEDICAL GROUP as COO, COBALT AIR as Senior Vice President, DUBAI ETA GROUP as General Manager, and CYPRUS AIRWAYS as General Manager Inflight Services. Ηe took over the duties of the Director General of the Cyprus Hotel Association since June 2020, while he is representing the Association to pertinent Bodies such as the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, Government Departments, the House of Representatives, as well as to Committees, Organizations and Associations in Cyprus and abroad related to the hotel industry and tourism. He has many years of experience in issues related to the tourism industry and tourism policy, regional development and European matters. He has participated as a speaker and coordinator in various conferences/workshops and has written articles in the daily press on issues concerning the tourism and hotel industry. He is a Member of the Advisory Board of the Italian-Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, with the aim of jointly developing initiatives and projects to promote the hospitality industry, as well as a Member of the Parallel Parliament for Entrepreneurship established by the House of Representatives.

Senior General Manager, Eurobank Cyprus
Mr. Petsas started his career in Laiki Bank in 1997 where he served in various positions in Corporate and Investment Banking while in 2006 he was appointed as Deputy General Manager of Laiki Bank AD Serbia. He joined Eurobank Cyprus in 2007 in the position of General Manager Corporate and Investment Banking and in 2014 he was appointed as Senior General Manager.Mr. Petsas holds a BSc in Business, Finance and Economics from the University of East Anglia and an MSc in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences. He is also registered in the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission’s Public Register of Registered Persons as holder of the Advanced Certification.

Director, Advisory, PwC Cyprus
Constantinos Savvides is a Director of Deals services and in charge of the Real Estate Advisory practice at PwC Cyprus. He has 12 years of advisory experience in the Real Estate and Hospitality & Leisure sectors, since he acquired a master’s degree in Real Estate Finance at the University of Cambridge, UK. His key areas of expertise include corporate finance, transaction advisory services and development consulting work. Constantinos carries hands-on experience in large real portfolio transactions, providing buy-side or sell-side M&A work, deal structuring and due diligence services. During the past few years, he was also extensively engaged in NPL transactions work in Cyprus, providing comprehensive collateral assessments and monetisation strategies.

Elie is responsible for driving expansion opportunities and leading Radisson Hotel Group’s strategic growth and hotel portfolio in the Middle East as well as Cyprus and Greece. His responsibility is to continue to grow the Group’s regional portfolio across each of Radisson Hotel Group’s core brands: Radisson Blu, Radisson, Park Inn by Radisson, Radisson RED, Radisson Collection, Prize by Radisson and art’otel. A Lebanese national, Elie has over 20 years’ experience in development and asset management with international hospitality consultants, as well as a global hotel operator. Elie was formerly part of the HVS team based in London and in Dubai, where his focus was on conducting feasibility studies, valuations, ROI analyses and strategic advice. He joined Radisson Hotel Group in 2010 as Development Manager quickly rising to his current VP role within the organisation. His ability to forge enduring cross-cultural relationships has proven to be a key attribute in a career that has included mandates for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Elie’s strengths lie in his ability to execute strategic agreements for new-build and conversion opportunities while forging strong relationships with new and existing owners. He is adept at assessing market conditions and gathering intelligence, turning opportunities into business. Elie has an MBA in International Hospitality Management specialising in Hotel Real Estate and Finance from the renowned IMHI – ESSEC Business School in Paris and a BA in Hospitality Management & Tourism from Notre Dame University in Lebanon.

George Campanellas is the Chief Executive Officer of the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (Invest Cyprus). He has nearly twenty years of professional experience in Cyprus and abroad, working with the DG Competition in Brussels and directly with the Cypriot Ministers of Health and Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism. Mr. Campanellas has been actively involved with the development of the oil & gas sector in the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone, dealing with licensing, exploration and exploitation activities, as well as promoting bilateral and multilateral cooperation at a regional level. Throughout his career, he also had an active role in drafting the regulatory framework and running the relevant licensing procedures for attracting Foreign Direct Investment in sectors of strategic importance and large-scale infrastructure projects, such as the LNG terminal at Vasilikos Energy Center, Cyprus Techno Park, EuroAsia Interconnector and the City of Dreams Mediterranean, Europe’s largest integrated casino resort and Cyprus’ largest FDI project. George Campanellas has been elected to the Steering Committee of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) and has the position of the Regional Directorship of Eastern Europe.

Property General Manager, City of Dreams Mediterranean and Cyprus Casinos, Melco Cyprus
Grant Johnson is the Property General Manager of City of Dreams Mediterranean and Cyprus Casinos. Prior to that, Grant was SVP, Casino Sales, Marketing & Operations at Studio City in Macau, and previously was SVP, Casino Sales & Marketing for Altira Macau and Mocha Clubs where he received his first casino–related marketing responsibilities. Grant handled various non-gaming marketing roles throughout Melco properties in Macau. Grant Johnson began his career with Melco in 2011. Before joining Melco, he was with Sands China Ltd. from 2007-2011 in a variety of marketing roles and was the Executive Director, Destination Marketing when he left. Prior to Sands, he worked for the National Basketball Association from 2005-2007 as its Director of Marketing, Asia; and from 1995-2005, he was with E.J. Krause & Associates (organizer of international conferences) and was VP, Marketing Asia when he left. Grant received his BS, Marketing from State University of New York.

Michalis Stephanou is an Advisory partner and in charge of the Banking sector at PwC Cyprus. He advises banks with the preparation and implementation of their strategic plans, financial reporting valuations, due diligences and other M&A projects. Michalis has been involved in some of the biggest transactions in the Cypriot banking sector as well as in Greece where he spent a year working at PwC Greece. He also has significant expertise advising Cypriot large corporates and SMEs in dealing with the restructuring of their credit facilities and resolving their liquidity issues, leading projects associated with acquisitions and disposals of shares or assets, group reorganisation exercises and other similar projects.
