The professional services sector in Cyprus is constantly searching for new niche services as demand grows bigger and gets more diversified. As international and local regulations are becoming stricter, the sector’s professionals need to differentiate their selling proposition, create new viable revenue sources and explore new geographical opportunities without compromising the country’s reputation. At the same time, the actual model of providing professional services is changing with the use of technology, data analysis, and new working models.

This established annual event brings together the leaders of the sector in Cyprus and prominent speakers from abroad to present and discuss the latest developments and trends. The Cyprus Professional Services Conference is a much-anticipated event by the sector’s most prominent stakeholders, accounting/audit/tax firms, well-known law firms, the international divisions of Cyprus banks, corporate service providers, investment companies, etc.

Haris Pistos
Director, International Banking, Bank of Cyprus

Haris Pistos is the Director of International Banking of Bank of Cyprus and has under his supervision the IBUs (a specifically designed network of Units specialised in servicing the Bank’s international clients in Cyprus), International Corporate Banking (specializing in Lending facilities in Greece and UK), Syndication lending and Shipping Finance. He joined the Bank in 1992 as Management Trainee. Before assuming his duties as Director he served the Bank as Cards Marketing Manager, then as Manager of Cards Center, Manager IBUs Nicosia, and as Manager International Banking Network. Harris holds a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK, and an MBA in Marketing Management from City Business School, London, UK.

Ambassador Julie Fisher
Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Cyprus, Embassy of the United States of America to the Republic of Cyprus

Prior to her appointment as Ambassador to Cyprus, Julie Fisher served as the Special Envoy for Belarus based in Vilnius, Lithuania. In 2020, she was confirmed as the first U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus since 2008. Fisher previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Europe and the European Union in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs and as Deputy Permanent Representative of the U.S. Mission to NATO. Earlier, she was the Chief of Staff to the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, and the Director of the State Department’s Operations Center. Other assignments include a detail to NATO’s international staff as Deputy Director of the Private Office and assignments at U.S. embassies in Georgia, Ukraine, and Russia, as well as tours at the National Security Council, the bureaus for European and Eurasian Affairs and Near Eastern Affairs, and the Secretary of State’s Executive Secretariat Staff. Fisher is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and has received numerous awards including a Presidential Rank Award. Fisher earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master’s degree from the School of International and Public Affairs at Princeton University. She speaks Russian and French.

Simon Squire
Head of Services Trade Sanctions, UK Department for Business and Trade

Simon Squire has worked in the UK Government for 10 years, specialising in services trade issues, in particular with respect to European trade. Simon was part of the teams negotiating the services chapters of the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement in 2020, and the Free Trade Agreement with the EEA/EFTA countries in 2021. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine last year, Simon has led the Services Trade Sanctions Team in the UK Department for Business and Trade, which established novel, new sanctions on the export of professional business services to Russia.

Georgia Constantinou-Panayiotou
Board Member, Cyprus Bar Association

Georgia Constantinou-Panayiotou is the Founder/Managing Partner of CONSTANTINOU PANAYIOTOU & CO LLC (GCP LAW), established in 2006. She is the Spokesperson/Board Member of the Cyprus Bar Association (CBA). She is a Certified Risk Management Specialist in Russian Sanctions (CRMS-RS), recognized as a high-performing professional with the skills to identify, assess, and manage sanctions risks. Georgia is a licensed lawyer and a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner. She holds a Law degree from the National & Kapodistrian University in Athens and a Masters degree (LL.M.) in European (Commercial) Law from the University of Leicester. She completed two accredited courses on “International Relations/World Politics” and “War Crimes, Genocides and Justice” (Harvard University/DCE-2001). Georgia is a Member of the Advisory Board of the European Lawyers Foundation, the President of the Committee of Young Lawyers and the Supervisor of the Committee of Companies of the CBA. Georgia is a leader in the legal industry with 20-years experience, specialised in Contract law, Company law, M&A, International Private law, Commercial law, Trust law, AML regulations, secured corporate finance and restructuring. Georgia acts as legal counsel in cross-border projects, representing HNW individuals and prominent organisations. For several years she was the Instructor of Commercial Law and Trust Law at the European University Cyprus. She is an investor in start-ups for digital technology, marketing and communication, in Cyprus and Greece.

Evgenios Evgeniou
Chairman, Invest Cyprus

Evgenios Evgeniou is Chairman of Invest Cyprus since June 2022. He is a member of the Council of the University of Cyprus and of the National Board for Research and Innovation. He was Chairman and CEO of PwC Cyprus from 2012-2021 and Member of the Leadership Team of PwC EMEA, representing fifteen European territories from 2014 -2021. He provided services to the Financial Services and Energy sectors and he participated in the study on the long-term economic strategy for Cyprus, “Vision 2035”. He has an engineering degree from Imperial College, London and he is a Fellow Chartered Accountant.

Pieris Markou
CEO, Deloitte Cyprus

Pieris Markou is the CEO of Deloitte in Cyprus and a member of the Deloitte Middle East Executive Board, having previously served as the Tax & Legal Services Leader. He started his career in London in 1986 and was admitted to Partnership at Chrysanthou and Christoforou (Andersen) in Cyprus in 2000. He is a member of the Council of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus since 2014, and elected President for the period 2021-2023, having previously served as the Vice President of the Council during the period 2019-2021 and Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Tax and VAT Committees. Pieris was an appointed member of the Advisory Council to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, for the establishment of an Independent Authority against Corruption for the period from its establishment until June 2023 and is currently a member of the Advisory Council to the Council of Ministers for the appointment of the board members of the Semi-Government Organisations. Pieris is also a board member of the Nicosia Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Pieris holds a BA in Accounting, is a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

Chris Koutouroussis
President, Cyprus Fiduciary Association (CYFA)

Chris Koutouroussis is the Partner in charge of Legal & Corporate Services at Baker Tilly South East Europe since January 2022, following the merger with Bizserve Consultants. His tenure as Managing Director of the latter span for almost 15 years, having joined in April 2007 following a 10-year career in banking (Laiki Bank and Alpha Bank). Chris spent his academic life in the UK. He holds a BSc in Economics from the University of Warwick, an MSc in Finance & Economics from Queen Mary and Westfield College of the University of London and an MBA from Warwick Business School. He has been involved with the Cyprus Fiduciary Association for more than a decade, initially, as Head of the International Business Committee. Since June 2014, Chris is a member of the Board of Directors, and in October 2019 he was elected President.

Michalis Persianis
Chairman, Fiscal Council

Michalis Persianis has been Corporate Affairs Director at Bank of Cyprus since 2015. He worked as a correspondent for the Wall Street Journal/Dow Jones from 2011 to 2014, and as Head Editor for Economy and Finance at Kathimerini newspaper (Cyprus edition) from 2009 to 2014. From 2005 to 2009 he was Head of Research (Presidential campaign) and Parliamentary staffer (European Parliament) for Mr Ioannis Kasoulides. He earned his BA in Political Science from Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA in 2002, and went on to earn an MA in International Economics and European Studies from John Hopkins SAIS Washington DC, USA in 2005.

Forensic Investigations, Sanctions & Anti-Money Laundering Compliance, Insolvency Practitioner and Residence Consultant & Associate, eBOS

Yiannis Pettemerides is a consultant in the fields of Forensic Investigations, Sanctions Compliance, Anti Money Laundering Compliance, Registered Auditor, Insolvency Practitioner, with more than 20 years of experience. He was engaged, as an External Technical Expert and leading the Onsite Inspection Teams, of the AML/Supervision Department of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). Yiannis also served as the Chairman of the Economic Crime and Forensic Accounting Committee of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC), as well as the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Technical Committees of the Cyprus Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and was a Founding Member of the Cyprus #209 Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). Yiannis engages as an External Technical Expert, in the fields of Forensic Investigations, Anti-money Laundering Investigations and Audit Investigations, with the Cyprus Police Economic Crime Unit, the Attorney General Office, the Audit General Office and the Private Sector, both in Cyprus and Internationally. He is a member of multiple associations including ICPAC, IIA, ACFE and ICA and the resident consultant of eBOS.

Kyriacos Kokkinos
Former Deputy Minister to the President for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Republic of Cyprus

Kyriacos Kokkinos is the former Deputy Minister to the President for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy. He previously served as the National Chief Scientist for R&I and Chairman of the Board of the R&I Foundation. He is a distinguished technologist and professional business leader in the high-tech sector, with more than thirty years of experience in Executive Management and Consulting roles in IBM Europe (Executive Director & Partner) and PwC. He also served at Board level of many Organizations. His Academic qualifications include Executive MBA in Strategic Management from Henley Management College (UK) and MSc & BSc in Electrical Engineering from NJIT (USA).

Ronald Attard
Country Managing Partner, EY Cyprus & Malta, Strategy and Transactions Leader for CESA region

Ronald Attard, has been a partner at EY for twenty-four years and has over thirty years’ professional experience. He is EY’s Strategy and Transactions (SaT) Leader for Central and South East Europe and Central Asia and managing partner for Cyprus and Malta. Under Ronald’s leadership, the successful SaT and Consulting businesses in EY Malta have been built from scratch. He successfully supported entities in acquisition or divestiture projects. He acts as client serving partner for a number of institutions and leading family businesses. He is a Chartered Certified Accountant, a Fellow of CIMA and a senior visiting lecturer at the University of Malta.

Philippos Soseilos is the CEO & Chairman of PwC Cyprus. Prior to becoming CEO in January 2022, he was a member of the Management Board for 13 years and Head of People for 8 years. He has 30 years of experience as a Business Consultant with a focus on strategy issues and implementation of business and digital transformation, in Cyprus and abroad, drawing from his extensive experience in leadership alignment, people consulting, as well as change and culture management. He has also led numerous projects relating to the reform of the public sector in Cyprus. Philippos has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, is a Fellow member of the ICAEW and a member of ICPAC.

George Themistocleous
Managing Partner & CEO, RSM Cyprus

George Themistocleous is the CEO and the Managing Partner of RSM Cyprus. He also leads RSM Cyprus’ Tax Services. He is a Fellow member of the Association of International Accountants (FAIA) and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC). He started his career more than 30 years ago, during which, among others, he was involved with audits and tax advisory services of numerous multinational groups in different industry sectors. He focuses on international tax developments, and he served a global accountants’ association as a vice-chairman for five years.

Christos V. Vasiliou
Managing Director, KPMG Limited

Christos V. Vasiliou started his career at KPMG in Leeds in 1991. He joined KPMG in Cyprus’ Audit department in 1994 and became a Board Member in 1999. Christos has been involved with the audit of large financial institutions including major banks, insurance companies and investment funds. In 2016 he was appointed Deputy Managing Director of KPMG in Cyprus and Managing Director in 2019. He was the Head of the Advisory in KPMG in Cyprus until 2021. He is a member of the Executive Committee of KPMG in Cyprus, a founding member of CIFA (Cyprus Investment Funds Association) and served as a member of the Board of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus for three terms spanning from 2014 to 2023. He is also President of the Cyprus-Australia Business Association.

Nikolas Chatziavraam

Nikolas Chatziavraam is the CEO of Softline Computer Systems. Nikolas holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and obtained his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Cyprus (UCy). Through his technical expertise he has been serving as a technology and operations optimization consultant for some of the largest professional service companies around the island such as law firms, accounting firms and fiduciary service providers. Maria Clappa
Tassos Papadopoulos & Associates LLC

Maria Clappa joined the firm in 2013 and became a Partner in 2016. Starting her career in the financial services industry as an in-house lawyer, she was later appointed the head of the legal, secretarial and compliance department at one of the largest financial groups in Cyprus. In 2011, she took over as head of fiduciary services at a fiduciary service provider in Cyprus. Currently, her practice at the firm is focused on private investments, joint ventures, property acquisitions and developments, immigration law and corporate affairs. She also has expertise in matters such as the formation, licensing and ongoing compliance of Alternative Investment Funds, CIFs and other entities and activities in the sphere of financial services. Maria is a Certified Person (advanced certification) on the register of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission. She has contributed articles to various publications on Investments and Business in Cyprus and Cypriot immigration Law. Andri Michael

Andri Michael is a member of the Cyprus Bar Association since 2004 and holds the position of a  partner at Kinanis LLC. Her main areas of practice, for over 15 years, includes corporate law, banking and finance, funds and capital markets. Association of Cyprus Banks

Through its representation of ten member banks, that hold more than 90% of market share and provide a full range of banking services, the Association of Cyprus Banks (ACB) is the voice of the Cyprus banking system. Its primary aim is to promote best practices for the interest of the banking sector and the local economy as a whole. The ACB is a non-profit organization through which common positions are formulated and promoted on banking and financial issues, when local legislative and governmental policies are determined. In communicating the industry’s views, the ACB cooperates closely with the Central Bank of Cyprus, the House of Representatives and various Ministries as well as other private and public bodies. The Association also has a close relationship with the European Banking Federation (of which it is a member), national banking associations and global organizations. Cyprus Bar Association

Cyprus Bar Association is the professional body of lawyers with 4500 members. Cyprus Bar Association was established under the Advocates Law Chapter 2 in 1960 and it has been operating since then. It is the Regulatory Body and among its powers is to maintain the honour and independence of the Bar and its defence in relation to the judiciary and the executive and to regulate the practice and etiquette of the profession. It is the competent authority for lawyers under Cyprus legislation in accordance with section 59 (4) of the Prevention and Suppression of Money Laundering of Money Laundering Activities Law of 2007 (L. 188 (I)/2007) as amended. Cyprus Bar Association is a member of the Council of the European Bar Association (CCBE) and a member of the International Bar Association (IBA).

Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA)

The Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA) was established in February 2013 and registered as an Association in April of the same year under the Associations and Foundations Law of 1972, and has become the collective voice and the reference point for all professionals and legal entities, offering services or engaged in the Investment Funds Industry in Cyprus. The mission of CIFA is to help its members capitalize on industry trends; shape regulation; enhance professionalism, integrity and quality; and promote the Cyprus Investments Fund Industry.

The Cyprus Fiduciary Association (CYFA), established in 2011, is the representative body of regulated Administrative Service Providers (ASP’s) in Cyprus.
