Cyprus Back on the Road to Growth
On March 31, 2016, Cyprus officially exited the EU-IMF economic adjustment programme, following significant reforms to its banking system and three years of major reforms in all areas of public administration and private business. Eurozone finance ministers and the IMF, which worked together in devising the €10bn programme, welcomed Cyprus’s economic recovery as a success story that justified the extensive economic reforms that the country has embarked on. Cyprus exited its bailout having borrowed only about €7.5bn of the €10bn allocated in the programme. The economy returned to growth last year and Cyprus is currently outperforming its budgetary targets.
