H.E. Nicos Anastasiades

President, Republic of Cyprus

Nicos Anastasiades studied Law at the University of Athens and pursued his postgraduate degree in Maritime Law at the University of London. Nicos Anastasiades is a founding member of the Youth of the Democratic Rally (NEDISY), in which he served from the posts of District Secretary, Vice President and President. After his successful term in NEDISY he took action next to the party’s historical leader Glafkos Clerides from the positions of First Vice President and later Deputy President until 1997. He is a member of the Cyprus National Council since 1995. Nicos Anastasiades was triumphantly elected as President of the Democratic Rally in 1997, a position that the members and officials of the party firmly trusted him with by being re-elected in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2012. At the same time Nicos Anastasiades was being elected Member of the House of Representatives from 1981 until his election to the Presidency of the Republic. He has also been elected Vice President of the House of Representatives for the years 1996- 2001 and he has served as Parliamentary Spokesman of the Democratic Rally. From his position as Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, as Head of the Inter- Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs as well as Head of the Cyprus delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), he represented the Cyprus Parliament since 1991 and took part in a number of international missions, specialized conferences and visits. Since his election to the Presidency of the Democratic Rally he also participated in all European People’s Party (EPP) Summits and Conferences, represented the Democratic Rally in the European Democrat Union (EDU) and actively participated in all conferences of the International Democrat Union (IDU). Nicos Anastasiades was first elected President of the Republic of Cyprus on February 24, 2013, and re-elected in 2017.

Dr. Christos Clerides
President, Cyprus Bar Association

Dr. Christos Ph. Clerides is the President of the Cyprus Bar Association. He is a Professor of Law and Head of the Department of Law of Frederick University. He is co-founder of Phoebus Christos Clerides and Associates LLC with his father, now deceased, ex-Minister of Justice and Member of the House of Representatives. Dr. Clerides was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from 2001-2006. He is a holder of an LL. B Hons (1976) and LL.M 1977 in Maritime Law and Insurance, University College, London and a Ph.D. holder in European Law of Kings College (1981). He has been practicing Law since 1982 and he is a litigation advocate.

Richard Susskind

Author, Speaker, and Independent Adviser to major professional firms and to national governments / guru in the future of professional service and on legal technology

Professor Richard Susskind OBE is an author, speaker, and independent adviser to major professional firms and to national governments. His main area of expertise is the future of professional service and, in particular, the way in which the IT and the Internet are changing the work of lawyers. He has worked on legal technology for over 30 years. He lectures internationally, has written many books, and advised on numerous government inquiries. Richard lectures internationally and has been invited to speak in over 40 countries and has addressed audiences (in person and electronically), numbering more than 250,000. He has written and edited numerous books, including Expert Systems in Law (OUP, 1987), The Future of Law (OUP, 1996), Transforming the Law (OUP, 2000), The Susskind Interviews: Legal Experts in Changing Times (Sweet & Maxwell, 2005), The End of Lawyers? Rethinking the Nature of Legal Services (OUP, 2008), Tomorrow’s Lawyers (2013), and has written around 150 columns for The Times. His work has been translated into 10 languages. He has advised on many government inquiries and, since 1998, has been IT Adviser to the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. Richard is President of the Society for Computers and Law, Chair of the Online Dispute Resolution Advisory Group of the Civil Justice Council, and Chair of the Advisory Board of the Oxford Internet Institute where he is also a Visiting Professor. He also hold professorships at UCL, Gresham College, London, and the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. Richard has a first class honours degree in law from the University of Glasgow and a doctorate in law and computers from Balliol College, Oxford. He has received numerous legal industry awards and is an Honorary Bencher of Gray’s Inn. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and of the British Computer Society, and was awarded an OBE in the Millennium New Year's Honours List for services to IT in the Law and to the Administration of Justice.


The Gala Dinner is addressed to all Cyprus Bar Association members, Board Members, CEOs, Managing Directors, Chairpersons, and other senior management executives from all legal firms in Cyprus. The Gala Dinner will also welcome politicians, diplomats, government officials, and professionals from other related sectors of the economy.

Cyprus Bar Association

Cyprus Bar Association is the professional body of lawyers with 4390 members. Cyprus Bar Association was established under the Advocates Law Chapter 2 in 1960 and it has been operating since then. It is the Regulatory Body and among its powers is to maintain the honour and independence of the Bar and its defence in relation to the judiciary and the executive and to regulate the practice and etiquette of the profession. It is the competent authority for lawyers under Cyprus legislation in accordance with section 59 (4) of the Prevention and Suppression of Money Laundering of Money Laundering Activities Law of 2007 (L. 188 (I)/2007) as amended. Cyprus Bar Association is a member of the Council of the European Bar Association (CCBE) and a member of the International Bar Association (IBA).
