The Association of Cyprus Electronic Money and Payment Institutions Cyprus (ACEMPI) is organizing an afternoon event on Thursday 28 September 2023, at 17:00, at Residence by Occhio.

The role of the ACEMPI is to promote and develop the electronic money sector in Cyprus and to reinforce cooperation among all stakeholders. In addition to supporting the successful development of the sector by examining and analyzing all industry related matters and their impact on the institutions individually and collectively, the ACEMPI will focus on protecting and representing its members’ rights and professional interests. Membership of the new Association is open to all Electronic Money Institutions & Payment Institutions licensed by the Central Bank of Cyprus to operate in Cyprus.

Constantinos Herodotou is the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) and a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank. Previously he served as an Executive Director at the CBC’s Board of Directors (2017-2019). He also held the position of the Commissioner of Privatisations in Cyprus (2014-2017). Before moving to Cyprus in 2014, most of his career was in investment banking at UBS Investment Bank in London, where he rose through the ranks to head concurrently two sectors: Shipping for Europe, Middle East and Africa and simultaneously Infrastructure & Concessions Advisory / Project Finance for Central & Eastern Europe. He has advised governments and global conglomerates on major financial transactions and strategy, totaling a value of over €50 billion. His experience includes among others structuring and heading complex negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, project concessions, listing companies on stock exchanges (NASDAQ and NYSE), structuring and raising equity and debt, corporate and financial restructurings and project finance. Constantinos Herodotou holds an MBA from London Business School and a BSc in Economics from University College London.
John Georgoulas is a Certified Board Director in Banking from INSEAD and Certified in Professional Banking and Green & Sustainable Finance from the Chartered Banker Institute. He has founded companies in the fields of advisory and technology, invested in startups and he is specialized in corporate governance, regulation in the financial services and technology. John has served on the board of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission appointed by the Council of Ministers. Now, he is a Non-Executive Director of EcommBX, TFI Markets, FXCM and Swissquote Capital Markets. He is the President of the Cyprus Association of Electronic Money & Payment Institutions, a member of the board and Chairman of the Economic Growth Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Cyprus. He has served on several boards both in the private sector and NGOs. John is an alumnus of IVLP from the Department of State of USA. He has an MBA, a BSc in Business Information Systems and a Diploma of Higher Education in Computer Sciences.
Patrick Papsdorf is Head of the Payments Oversight Section in the Directorate General Market Infrastructure and Payments (DG-MIP) at the European Central Bank. He has more than 20 years experience in central banking and financial market infrastructure matters. His current responsibilities cover the oversight activities related to payment systems, payment schemes and arrangements as well as the broader payments ecosystem, including payment innovations and cyber resilience. Patrick participates in several workstreams at international level. Prior to his oversight responsibilities, Patrick was Adviser to DG-MIP’s division that manages and operates the Eurosystem’s TARGET services. He led the development of the data analytics function and was lead expert for business continuity and crisis management. Earlier positions include a commercial bank, the Deutsche Bundesbank and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Patrick holds the official recognition as bank officer in Germany, a BA from the University of the Deutsche Bundesbank, and an MA in Global Management.
The Association of Cyprus Electronic Money and Payment Institutions (ACEMPI) was founded in 2021. Its stated mission is to promote and develop the electronic money sector in Cyprus, while protecting and representing its members’ rights and professional interests. Other key objectives of the Association include liaising with members and growing its network, conducting electronic money-related research and studies, gathering and evaluating information, and cooperating with the regulatory authorities – specifically with the Central Bank of Cyprus for initial discussions on issues relating to the electronic money sector.
The event is addressed to Members of ACEMPI, Board Members, CEOs, CFOs, COOs, CROs, Managing Directors, Finance Directors and other senior executives from the financial sector. The event will also welcome representatives from relevant local regulatory bodies and governmental authorities.
