Cyprus and India have had a long tradition of excellent political and economic relations and this has led to numerous bilateral agreements between the two countries for cooperation in the fields of commerce, science and technology, culture, information exchange, health, and medicine. Due to the excellent collaboration, the Cyprus India Business Association (CIBA), was established under the auspices of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce.

The Cyprus-India Business Association and the High Commission of India, Nicosia, with the support of the Millennial India International Chamber of Commerce (MIICCIA) are delighted to announce the Cyprus India Economic Cooperation Conference “India – Cyprus Business Cooperation and Investment Opportunities Highlighting the Health, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Agriculture Sectors”, taking place

Wednesday, 24 March 2021 in a digital format. (Cyprus Local Time: 11:30 and India Local Time: 15:00)

The Conference aims to take a focus on the selected fields of Health, ICT and Agriculture. The goal is to enhance Business Corporation between companies in India and Cyprus, to outline the two governments’ vision and policies in said fields, and to identify and discuss business and investment opportunities.

Andreas Yiasemides
President, Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA)

Andreas Yiasemides is the President of the Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA) and Partner, in charge of Funds Services at PwC Cyprus. On his graduation from the University of Manchester with a first-class degree in Economics, he joined PwC in 1999 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (FCA). He continued his career with the Bank of Cyprus, holding various positions including heading the Custody and Trusts Unit. He then moved on to an organization of professional services where he set up and led the Fund Services Unit. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Cyprus and of the Central Bank of Cyprus and is the President of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Investment Fund Association (CIFA). He is also a member of the Cyprus National Advisory Council of the Charter Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI).

Nikos Christodoulides
President of the Republic of Cyprus

Nikos Christodoulides was born on 6 December 1973 in Paphos. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Economics, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies from the City University of New York, Queens College, and a Master’s degree in Political Science from New York University. He holds a doctorate from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the University of Athens. He was a career diplomat between 1999 and 2018. During this time, he served, inter alia, as Consul General at the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus in the United Kingdom, as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Cyprus in Greece and as Spokesperson of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU at the Permanent Mission of Cyprus in Brussels. He also served as Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President of the Republic of Cyprus (2013-2018) and as Government Spokesman (2014-2018). On 1st March 2018 he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, a position which he held until his resignation on 11 January 2022. Between 2007 and 2010 he was a Lecturer and Research Associate at the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Cyprus in the subject of History of the Postwar World. He is the author of the books Plans for Solution of the Cyprus Problem 1948-1978 (2009), Relations between Athens and Nicosia and the Cyprus Problem, 1977-1988 (2013), and Geopolitical Realities in the Plans for Solution of the Cyprus Problem 1948-1978 (2021). On February 12, 2023, he won the Presidential Elections with a percentage of 51.97% and assumed his duties as the 8th President of the Republic of Cyprus.

H.E. Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat

High Commissioner of India to Cyprus

High Commissioner Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat is a career diplomat and joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1999. She has been educated in New Delhi and has done her graduation in Political Science (Honours) and followed it with an LLB. High Commissioner Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat began her diplomatic career in the Embassy of India in Moscow, Russia (2001-2004) and thereafter, was posted to Embassy of India in Almaty, Kazakhstan (2004-2006). She subsequently served as Under Secretary on deputation in the Ministry of Commerce, Trade Policy Division, New Delhi (2006-2008) with a stint as Deputy Secretary in the Public Diplomacy Division, Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. She was First Secretary in the Embassy of India, Stockholm, Sweden (2008-2011) for Commercial & Economic, Cultural and Information affairs. Later, she joined the Embassy of India, Moscow, Russia (2011-2014) in the capacity of Counsellor, Economic & Commercial and Culture. She served as the Deputy Chief of Mission in the Embassy of India, Ankara, Turkey (2014-2017). High Commissioner Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat was appointed as India’s first National Coordinator and Joint Secretary for Shanghai Cooperation Organization (June, 2017 - October, 2019). She assumed charge as High Commissioner of India in Cyprus on November 11, 2019.

Christodoulos E. Angastiniotis
CEO, VitaTrace Nutrition Ltd

Having completed a university degree in Business Administration and specialization in Science management at the University of Cranfield, Christodoulos Angastiniotis is the CEO of the VitaTrace Nutrition (VTN) Group of Companies, while he has a rich leadership portfolio within organizations, business associations and companies, such as the presidency of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (2017-2023), the presidency of CIPA (2011-2018), the presidency of the PanCyprian Association of Veterinary Medicine (2007-2013), etc. In 2010, Christodoulos Angastiniotis was awarded with the annual quality award for his outstanding contribution to the upgrading of the quality of Cyprus, by the Ministry of Finance and the Cyprus Quality Organization.

Polys Dionysiou

Senior Manager, Advisory - Health Industry, PwC Cyprus

Polys Dionysiou is an experienced health strategy consultant who has been helping health organisations over the past 12 years transform and grow in response to emerging challenges and trends in their health environments. Previous to his PwC role, Polys held senior positions in the Global Strategy Group and Strategy division of two UK professional services organisations. During this time Polys has worked extensively with NHS hospitals, NHS commissioners, private hospitals in Cyprus, the HIO (OAY) and local health NGOs advising them on their business strategy, growth strategy, organisational set-up and operational improvement amongst other things.

Vivek Partheeban

Chief Operating Officer (COO), Caplin Point Laboratories

Vivek Partheeban is the current Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Caplin Point Laboratories, a homegrown company proudly Headquartered in Tamil Nadu, with a dominant footprint in Central & South America. He is responsible for managing the overall global operations for the company in 23 countries across the World, managing nearly 2500 employees, with 1800 in India alone. He spearheads the vision of the company to be a fully integrated healthcare provider with a focus towards the bottom of the pyramid, both at source and at markets. Following the establishment of Caplin Point Laboratories in India in 1990, and its subsequent successes, Mr. Vivek Partheeban is also responsible for building the Chinese operations for the company since 2005.He received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Biotechnology from Monash University and an Owner/ President Management Degree (OPM) from Harvard University, USA.

Managing Director, Fredun Pharmaceuticals, India

Fredun Medhora is the Managing Director of Fredun Pharmaceuticals Ltd and he heads all the Companies in Fredun Group. Fredun Pharmaceuticals Ltd., currently exports to over 42 countries with over 400 formulations. The Company has one of the largest plants in India for formulations with a diverse range of products. He has founded various successful companies in different industries ranging from Textiles to Diagnostics and consultancy to education. As a graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh , USA with a degree in Entrepreneurship along with Masters in strategic planning from Cardiff, UK, he spearheads a group of over 1500 employees towards constant growth.

Michael C.G. Charalambides
CEO/MD, ECOMMBX

Michael C.G. Charalambides comes from a banking background with solid academic and strategic foundation in macro-economics and politics. Since the dawn of the Fin-Tech industry Michael has become a part of many leading industry projects and regulatory bodies via contribution through his network of projects. He has successfully launched with his peers the ECOMMPAY brand, was part of the project that launched the first private POS payments terminal in Cyprus and now has taken on a new venture and created the family of ECOMMBX as an EMI regulated under the CBC. Michael's favourite words that lead his vision are: “positive disruption” and “always work in the light".

Prakash Wakankar

CEO- Two Wheeler Business & Chief of International Operations- Farm Equipment Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd

As the CEO for 2-wheeler business, he is responsible for handling the Global 2-Wheeler businesses of M&M including Peugeot Motorcycles in France, the 2- wheeler Division in India and Classic Legends Pvt Limited - that has iconic brands like the Jawa, Yezdi and BSA. He is Director on the Boards of Peugeot Motocycles, CLPL and BSA. As the Chief of International Operations for the Farm Equipment Sector, he is responsible for driving exports of farm equipment from India, to over 50 markets globally. He is also responsible for the operations of 6 international subsidiaries – Erkunt Tractors, Erkunt Foundry and Hisarlar in Turkey, Mitsubishi Mahindra Agriculture Machinery in Japan, Mahindra Brazil and Mahindra Mexico. In his career spanning more than 35 years, he has spearheaded various businesses across India, Asia-Pacific, the Far East and Europe with varied Industry exposure including Pharmaceuticals, FMCG, Hospitality, Packaging, Energy, Retail, 2-Wheelers & Farm Machinery and has worked for companies as varied as Pfizer, Coca-Cola, Perfetti & Essel-Propack among others. He is acknowledged to have created some iconic advertising and communication, particularly at Coca-Cola and Perfetti van Melle, and has led multiple turnarounds of businesses. An accomplished sports broadcaster for the BBC, Prakash is passionate about Cricket and is a regular on All India Radio & Australian Broadcasting Corporation. He has a Master’s in Business from Symbiosis, Pune and is an alumnus of IMD, Lausanne and the Yale School of Management for the Future Leaders Program.
