BDO presents the Information Security & Data Privacy Conference, on Wednesday, 15 September 2021, 08:30-13:00 at the Hilton Nicosia.

Introduction

The Information Security & Data Privacy conference will host distinguished speakers from Cyprus and abroad who will attempt to shed light on a variety of information security and privacy topics. From the latest developments in Security & GDPR certification schemes, to the rapid evolution of the cyber threat landscape, this half-day conference promises a stimulating programme which will highlight issues of importance to today’s decision makers.

Dr Alexis Michael

Head of Technology Risk Advisory, BDO

Alexis is the Head of the Technology Risk Advisory services of BDO Cyprus. He has over 10 years of experience in the areas of IT, Information Security and Data Privacy. Before taking over BDO’s TRA department, he was occupied as an independent consultant, in the domains of information security and data privacy. His previous experience also includes holding senior positions at firms in the financial and banking sector, as well as in the academic sector. Alexis holds a doctoral degree in the area of Information Security, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a Master’s degree in Information Security and a Master’s degree in Business Administration. In addition, he is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E), an EC-Council Disaster Recovery Professional (EDRP) and a holder of the Security+ certification. He has presented various topics in national and international conferences and has also published a variety of articles on security and privacy topics.

Panos Panayiotou

Manager Information Security, Bank of Cyprus

Experienced Information Security Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the banking industry for 20 years. Privileged to set up the Security Offices of the two leading banks in the country and Skilled in Security Risk Management & Governance, as well managing the entire spectrum of Security processes. Chairperson of Cyber security working group in Association of Cyprus banks, permanent member of European banking Federation (EBF) cyber security working group and security committee of Artemis credit bureau. Representing EBF and European Banks to ENISA for the development of Cloud Security Certification. Strong professional with M.Sc. focused in Information Security from Royal Holloway, U. of London.

Damon Greber

Director Advisory Services, BDO

Damon has over 20 years’ experience in Professional Services working with global clients in many jurisdictions. Damon leads a team providing a full range of Data Privacy consulting and support services. He was previously Head of Internal Audit for a significant Hedge Fund Manager and has led the global IT external audit of an investment bank, acted as Head of IT internal audit for two retail banks as well as managed the delivery of Service Organisation Controls Reports. Damon’s focus is on Governance and assisting businesses embracing digital change and new regulations whilst maintaining effective risk management practices.

Phil Ruelle

Chief Digital Officer, BDO

With over 25 years of experience in Information Technology, Phil leads a Digital Advisory practice helping clients to embed innovation and agile approaches into their organisations and enabling them in harnessing technology to rapidly deliver customer value. The practice delivers multiple services include digital strategy, automation, and future technology advisory. Phil is also responsible for his organisation’s cybersecurity and maintaining the organisation’s ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials accreditations. His previous roles include COO of a management consultancy, Director of Technology for a systematic hedge fund, and Systems Architect for a global, multi-disciplinary legal/financial services firm.

Andreas Iacovou
Team Leader at National CSIRT-CY, Digital Security Authority

Andreas Iacovou joined the National Computer Security Incident Response Team as an analyst in November 2017. He holds a Bachelors degree in Information Technology, and a Masters degree in Information Security from Royal Holloway, University of London. During his career, Andreas worked as an engineer for Apple Inc. and as a security engineer for Gemalto. Currently, as a security expert and Team Leader for the National CSIRT-CY, Andreas, among other responsibilities is responsible for Incident Management, Reporting and Threat Intelligence.

Christina Panayi

Information Security Officer, BDO

Christina is the Information Security Officer at Technology Risk Advisory of BDO Cyprus. Christina is a graduate of BSc(Hons) Computer Networks and Technology from the University of Central Lancashire at Preston, England. Also, Christina is a graduate of MSc Cyber Security and Management from the University of Warwick where she also obtained the GCHQ certification. After she graduated she has worked for Deloitte LTD where she has been involved in large-scale projects assessing and managing a significant volume of data in a short period of time. These projects include the creation and maintenance of a legal register for a banking group of Cyprus and the implementations of PSD2 to PSP organisations. Additionally, Christina was involved in projects regarding Journal Entries Testing (JET) and GITCs (General Information Technology Controls). At BDO Christina is involved in internal information security aspects where she provides consultation to the organisation to enhance their information security and apply the appropriate regulations.

Dr Yianna Danidou

Lecturer in Cybersecurity, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Director, CYBER.EUC Cybersecurity Competence Center Research Associate, CERIDES, European University Cyprus

Yianna is a Lecturer in Cybersecurity at the European University Cyprus (EUC). She has long teaching experience in Cybersecurity and Computer Science related topics, and along with academic teaching, she has been engaged in research, and particularly EU funded research programs through CERIDES, where she is a Research Associate for the last 7 years. Recently, CYBER.EUC cybersecurity competence center has been established and she serves as the director. She holds a PhD in Law and IT from the University of Edinburgh, an M.Sc. degree in Advanced Computing – Internet Technologies from the University of Bristol, UK and a B.Sc. Computer Science degree from the University of Cyprus.
