For the past ten years, the Nicosia Economic Congress has been a must-attend event for members of the island’s broader business community, and this year’s will undoubtedly be one of the most important conferences dealing with the Cyprus economy. Τhe 11th Nicosia Economic Congress aims to contribute to the creation of a long-term vision for sustainable development and prosperity in Cyprus and to be the starting point for a new beginning and the restart of the economy. It is obvious that the country needs a new long-term vision and model of economic growth if it is to have a sustainable future.

This one-day event will bring together influential and innovative minds from all sectors as well as government officials and decision/policy-makers, who will analyze and discuss the current state of the Cypriot economy and share their own views and suggestions concerning the overall vision for a sustainable economy and how this vision can be achieved in their particular area of activity.

 

Attendance of the Nicosia Economic Congress is by invitation only. Nevertheless, a limited number of seats is available for non-invited guests upon request and subject to approval.

Kyriakos Iordanou
General Manager, Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus

Kyriakos Iordanou is the General Manager of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC) since January 2012. Prior to that, he served as a Council member between 2002 to 2011, rising to the position of the Vice President (2009-2011). Kyriakos Ιordanou is a Fellow of ACCA, member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CPFA) and a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (FCIS), as well as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (MCIM). He also served as a board member of the Cyprus Institute of Internal Auditors (2006-2011). In 2019, he was elected as the President of the Parallel Parliament for Research, Innovation and Digital Governance.

First Vice Chairman, Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation

Demetris S.Vakis holds a BSc. in Computer Science and Accounting (Joint Honours) and is a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in London.He is a Board member of KPMG since 1990, First Vice Chairman of the Board of the Employers and Industrialists Federation of Cyprus (OEB), member of the Council of ICPAC, President of the Cyprus Organization for Standardization, member of the Cyprus Institute of Internal Auditors of Cyprus, member of the Tech Board of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and member of the Advisory Board for the School of Economics and Management of the University of Cyprus.

Virginijus Sinkevičius

Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, European Commission

Virginijus Sinkevičius has been the European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries since 2019. He was formerly the Minister of Economy of Lithuania (2017-2019). Before becoming the Minister of Economy, Sinkevičius led the Economic Committee of the Parliament of Lithuania. Sinkevičius was elected to Parliament in October 2016. Before that, he was a Team Lead for Regulatory Affairs at Invest Lithuania. Prior to joining Invest Lithuania, Sinkevičius was Managing Editor at the US Office of The Lithuanian Tribune in Washington D.C. Sinkevičius holds a BA in International Relations and Affairs from Aberystwyth University and a Master’s degree in European International Affairs from Maastricht University.

Clara de la Torre

Deputy Director-General, European Commission, DG Climate Action

Since 1 September 2019, Clara de la Torre has held the post of Deputy Director General in the Directorate-General for Climate Action at the European Commission. Previously, she was Director for Transport in the Directorate-General for Research & Innovation. From 2014 to 2016, she was responsible for the dossier ‘Key Enabling Technologies’, following a 3-year appointment as Director in the field of Research and Innovation. Clara de la Torre has a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Universidad Autόnoma of Madrid.

Constantinos Petrides
Minister of Finance, Republic of Cyprus

Constantinos Petrides assumed office as Minister of Finance of the Republic of Cyprus on the 3rd of December 2019. Prior to his appointment, he served as Minister of Interior (1 May 2017 - 3 December 2019) and Deputy Minister to the President of the Republic of Cyprus (1st March 2013 – 30 April 2017). From September 2011 to February 2013 was the Director of the Office of the President of the Democratic Rally. In 2006 he was hired at the European Commission in Brussels where he worked as an economist at the Directorate-General for Agriculture and the Directorate General for Competition until September 2011. He studied Economics at the University of Nottingham and then acquired an MSc in Political Economy of Transition in Europe from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences.

CONSTANTINOS HERODOTOU

Governor, Central Bank of Cyprus

Constantinos Herodotou is the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) and a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank. Previously he served as an Executive Director at the CBC’s Board of Directors (2017-2019). He also held the position of the Commissioner of Privatisations in Cyprus (2014-2017). Before moving to Cyprus in 2014, most of his career was in investment banking at UBS Investment Bank in London, where he rose through the ranks to head concurrently two sectors: Shipping for Europe, Middle East and Africa and simultaneously Infrastructure & Concessions Advisory / Project Finance for Central & Eastern Europe. He has advised governments and global conglomerates on major financial transactions and strategy, totaling a value of over €50 billion. His experience includes among others structuring and heading complex negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, project concessions, listing companies on stock exchanges (NASDAQ and NYSE), structuring and raising equity and debt, corporate and financial restructurings and project finance. Constantinos Herodotou holds an MBA from London Business School and a BSc in Economics from University College London.

Christodoulos E. Angastiniotis
CEO, VitaTrace Nutrition Ltd

Having completed a university degree in Business Administration and specialization in Science management at the University of Cranfield, Christodoulos Angastiniotis is the CEO of the VitaTrace Nutrition (VTN) Group of Companies, while he has a rich leadership portfolio within organizations, business associations and companies, such as the presidency of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (2017-2023), the presidency of CIPA (2011-2018), the presidency of the PanCyprian Association of Veterinary Medicine (2007-2013), etc. In 2010, Christodoulos Angastiniotis was awarded with the annual quality award for his outstanding contribution to the upgrading of the quality of Cyprus, by the Ministry of Finance and the Cyprus Quality Organization.

ANTONIOS ANTONIOU

Chairman, Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB)

Antonios Antoniou is the elected Chairman of the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB), effective as of January 1st 2021. He is also the Executive Chairman of Vassiliko Cement Works PLC, a position he holds since February 2008. From 1998 until 2006 he was Senior Vice President (Operations and Systems) and a member of the European Executive Committee of Nielsen Europe (based in Brussels). He was a founding partner of AMER World Research Ltd where he was Deputy General Manager from 1983 until 1998. He has also worked previously as a Biochemist at University College as well as a Computer Systems Analyst at British Gas, both in London.

Takis Klerides
Chairman, Council of Economy and Competitiveness

Takis Klerides was born in Nicosia. He holds a Business Studies Diploma from the UK and is a Fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants of the UK and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus. He practiced in the UK and Greece and from 1981 to 1999 he was a partner with KPMG Cyprus, specialising amongst others in banking, finance, and insurance. He was appointed Minister of Finance of the Republic of Cyprus in March 1999 until February 2003. As Minister of Finance, he had a pivotal role in Cyprus accession to the EU and the harmonisation of two major chapters in Taxation and Competition. In 2001 he introduced a major Tax Reform, whose positive effects are still valid today. In June 2018 he was appointed Chairman of the Council of Economy and Competitiveness. He serves on the Boards of global leading corporations in Shipping, Insurance, and private equity funds. He has served as the Chairman of Cyprus Basketball Federation (1988 1998) and in the Executive Council of the Cyprus Olympic Committee. He is the Vice Chairman of Karaiskakio Foundation a non-profit organisation which is involved in research for hematological malignancies as well as the Cyprus Bone Marrow Donor Registry. He is also the Treasurer of the Cyprus Cancer Research Institute (CCRI), a Cancer Research organisation.

KYRIAKOS CHRYSOCHOS

Group Founder, Cyfield Group

Kyriakos Chrysochos was born in Lefkara. After graduating from the Higher Technological Institute, he studied at the City University of New York, where he acquired bachelor’s and master’s degree in Civil engineering. He joined the Chi Epsilon Honorary Society of Civil Engineers for his exceptional academic achievements. In 1990, he founded Cyfield Development Ltd, which quickly grew to a leading diversified construction and development conglomerate with operations in Cyprus Greece and Egypt. The strategies he applied have determined the group’s success: the design of innovative buildings, the customer-centric approach, the detailed analysis of business risks, the vertical integration of the Group’s supply chain, and the careful and diversified financial management. In 2017, the United Kingdom’s Institute of Directors awarded Kyriakos Chrysochos as one of the best business leaders. In addition, at the 5th KEBE Business Leader Awards in 2018, he was awarded with the Business Leader Award in the category of property construction and land development. The new business challenge is the admission in the energy sector with the construction of the first private power station in Cyprus.

Lysandros Ioannou
Executive Chairman, PHC Franchised Restaurants Public LTD

Lysandros Ioannou is the Executive Chairman and major shareholder of PHC Franchised Restaurants Public Ltd, the leader of Restaurant, Cafés and Catering Industry in Cyprus. The PHC Group operates more than 100 units (Pizza Hut, KFC, Taco Bell, Wagamama, Caffé Nero, Jamie’s Italian, PAUL Burger King etc) in Cyprus and Greece employing more than 2300 persons. Graduate of the London School of Economics, he worked for Pepsi Cola International as Vice President Marketing (Middle East, Africa &Easter Europe) as well as Regional Vice President for Greece and the Balkans. He also worked for Procter & Gamble in different Marketing Assignments in Europe. Both the companies of the Group he leads and Lysandros Ioannou personally have been repeatedly recognised in Cyprus and abroad.

Phivos Stasopoulos
Chief Banking Officer, Hellenic Bank

Born in 1967 in Cyprus, Phivos Stasopoulos has extensive experience in the accounting and banking industries. After graduating from the University of Manchester with a B.A. in Accounting, Finance and Econometrics, he joined KPMG in the UK, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He returned to Cyprus to join Bank of Cyprus as Head of Debt Recovery. After serving in various posts, he became General Manager as Head of Corporate Banking. He left the Bank at the end of 2013 and for a period of almost 2 years he was providing financial advice to reputable Cyprus companies, primarily for debt restructuring. He is a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). He joined Hellenic Bank in April 2016 where he held the position of General Manager Business Division and was responsible for the Bank’s Corporate and SME portfolio. Since August 2021, he holds the position of Chief Banking Officer, responsible for the whole spectrum of Customer related activities and products (Corporate, SME, Retail, International ,Shipping, Products)

COSTAS ZORBAS

Executive Chairman, Zorbas Group

Costas Zorbas is the Executive Chairman of the Zorbas Group, since 1989. Born on December 26, 1965, he had his first experience with baking, at the family bakery in Athienou, where he started working at a young age to help his father. After getting to know and love baking, he decided to expand his education on the profession, by pursuing further studies at reputable bakeries and confectioneries in Greece and Italy, where he gained in-depth expertise on the art of bread-making. Additionally, he completed a two-year program by the European Business Development Group. He has also presented studies at various conferences, participated in specialized bakery and confectionery seminars in Cyprus and abroad, and has tutored professionals of the sector. In 1988, he led the opening of the family business’ first shop in Nicosia, which was the first important step in the company’s expansion throughout Cyprus. His vision is to continue providing the public that has been supporting the Zorbas Group for 45 years now, with exceptional services, as well as maintain the excellent quality of the products the company offers.

CHRISTOS EOJOURIAN

Head, Technology & Digital, Hellenic Bank Public Company Ltd

Christos Eojourian is the Head of Technology & Digital at Hellenic Bank. Christos has over 12 years of experience in the financial services sector in the UK. He started his career at UBS in London working within Prime Brokerage Technology before taking a senior role within the Hedge Fund Client Integration team at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Prior to his current role, Christos was a Director at BlackRock leading, a global team for the Aladdin platform, which provides portfolio management, trading, operations, compliance and accounting tools on a single platform. Christos graduated from the University College London (UCL) with a BEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

DR NICOLAS KYRIAKIDES

Partner, Harris Kyriakides

Partner and Head of the firm’s Banking & Finance and Insurance Law Departments, Nicolas Kyriakides is one of Cyprus’s most celebrated young commercial lawyers and academics. He is regularly involved in projects with the leading banking, finance and insurance brands in Cyprus, as well as foreign equivalents globally in relation to their Cypriot operations. He is a member of the firm’s Board of Directors and also lectures regularly at the University of Nicosia. He has contributed to a number of high level innovative legal research initiatives and papers in the course of both his commercial practice and his academic life, particularly in the area of Civil Procedure and especially the establishment of the Procedural Law Unit research hub

Andreas Neocleous
CΕO, Cyta

Andreas Neocleous is the first CEO of Cyta, Cyprus’ largest telecommunications organisation, to have been appointed from the private sector. On assuming his duties in January 2019, he redefined the organisation’s vision and set it on a course of growth and dynamic evolution, which has since resulted in a significant increase in revenue and profitability. His personal ambition is to see Cyta evolve its commercial orientation and assert with confidence and flexibility in every opportunity; a leader in the new generation of telecommunications in Cyprus, offering the technology of the future at affordable prices, impacting consumers’ lives and winning customers’ hearts and minds. He is Chairman of the Board of Cyta subsidiary, Cytacom and a board member of Tech Island. Before taking up his duties at Cyta, he was, among others, Director of Business and Customer Experience at MTN Cyprus, Commercial Manager at Ericsson and a Senior Technology Analyst at Goldman Sachs in London and New York.

ANDREAS XIROCOSTAS

Managing Director, SAP Hellas, Cyprus, Malta

Andreas Xirocostas joined SAP Hellas in 1999 as Application Consultant & Presales Consultant. From 2002 until 2007 he worked as Sector Sales Manager in Manufacturing and Telecommunications. In 2008 he assumed the Sales Director position for SAP Greece & Cyprus, with responsibilities in Direct and Indirect Business together with the Commercial and Relationship Management of the Ecosystem. Since April 2016 his company entrusted him the position of Managing Director, for Greece, Cyprus and Malta. Andreas holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering - Production Engineering from National Technical University of Athens.

Michalis Hadjipanayiotou

Chairman, Cyprus Land & Building Developers Association & CEO, Cybarco Development Ltd

Michalis Hadjipanayiotou is the CEO of Cybarco Development Ltd, a member of the Lanitis Group, the Chairman of The Cyprus Land and Building Developers Association and a Board Member of The Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB). He is also a Board Member of Limassol Marina Ltd, the Executive Director of Trilogy Limassol Seafront Ltd, and a Member of other Boards of Directors. A Senior Executive, with over two decades of leadership experience across multiple industries, he has a strong history of achievement with year-on-year growth in revenue and profit. A board level collaborator, with a track record of successfully balancing stakeholder interests, he has driven the sales, marketing and business development for pioneering developments in Cyprus and multinational corporations like Pepsico International and Procter & Gamble. Michalis is a Fulbright Scholar with an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin and a First-Class Honours undergraduate in Finance and Econometrics from Manchester University.

Pantelis Leptos
Co-President, Leptos Estates

Pantelis M. Leptos was born in Athens, Greece on 23/10/1964. He holds a BSC in Civil Engineering, and a Master of Science in International Finance, Trade and Shipping. He is the Co Chairman of The Leptos Group of Companies, one of the largest and most successful private Groups in Cyprus and Greece and is the President and Member of the Board of Directors of the Public Company “Leptos Calypso Hotels Ltd”. Furthermore he is the Honorary Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Land and Building Developers Association and a board member of CIPA. Pantelis Leptos has been the Ex-President of The Paphos Hotel Owners Association and the ex-Board Treasurer of the Cyprus Hotel Owners Association. He is also the Past President and Honorary President of FIABCI Cyprus. He is a Member of the Cyprus Technical Chamber (ETEK) and is also the Honorary Consul for Jamaica in Cyprus. He currently serves as member of the Board of many other social and professional bodies.

Director, OIKOS GROUP

Petros Petrou is the Managing Director of Oikos Group. Experienced founder of many other successful businesses in the sector of property, tourism, and services. Petros is a performance driven professional with a proven ability to accomplish business-development goals in generating high business revenue. In 2008 Petros became a member of the Chamber of Commerce and since 2012 is the president of the business association in Famagusta district. Vassilios Demetriades
Shipping Deputy Minister to the President, Republic of Cyprus

Vassilios Demetriades is the Shipping Deputy Minister to the President since 10 July 2020. Prior to his appointment he served as a Policy Officer in the Directorate General of Mobility and Transport of the European Commission dealing with the coordination of the EU maritime transport strategy and EU’s external maritime transport relations for 5 years. He was previously involved in the promotion of EU sustainable shipping initiatives through the coordination of the European Sustainable Shipping Forum and he has also served as a Member of Cabinet of Commissioner Vassiliou responsible for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth. He has formerly served the Cyprus Public Administration in various positions: Head of EU Affairs at the Cypriot Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works dealing with the formulation of Cyprus’s national position to the EU transport, telecommunications, integrated maritime and space policies as well as with the overall coordination of the Cyprus Presidency to the EU pertaining to these areas and as trainer-lecturer on EU Affairs at the Cyprus Academy of Public Administration (2009- 2013); Counsellor for Maritime Affairs at the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the EU (2004-2008); Maritime Affairs Officer at the Cyprus Maritime Administration (1998-2004). He studied Economics at the University of Surrey and then acquired an MSc in Management Science.

Themis Papadopoulos

President, Cyprus Shipping Chamber

Themis Papadopoulos born in 1974 and graduated from the University of Warwick before joining Interorient Navigation Co Ltd in 1997. He served in various positions in the company before being appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2004, a position he still holds. He is the current President of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Vice Chairman of the International Chamber of Shipping and a board member in various industry bodies including OEB. He is also a director of numerous companies including Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol and Tufton Oceanic Finance Group.

ANDREAS HADJIPETROU
CSM Managing Director / Group Chief Commercial Officer Columbia Shipmanagement Ltd

Andreas Hadjipetrou serves as the Chief Commercial Officer of the Columbia Group and holds the position of Managing Director at Columbia Shipmanagement Ltd. With over 400 vessels under management, in his role as CCO, Andreas is responsible for overseeing the commercial aspects of the group’s operations. This includes managing customer relationships, fostering strategic partnerships, and driving product development. Andreas’ extensive experience and expertise in the ship management industry have been pivotal in advancing the management services provided by the Columbia Group.

He represents the company in various group-level partnerships and holds directorial roles in esteemed industry organizations such as BIMCO, the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC), Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA), Cyprus Maritime Academy, and the DNV National Committee.

Thomas Kazakos
Director General, Cyprus Shipping Chamber

Thomas A. Kazakos is the Director General of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber. Mr. Kazakos is also a Member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (ΟΕΒ), as well as, the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ΚΕΒΕ). He has previously served as a Board Member of the Cyprus Ports Authority and the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (CIPA). Similarly, he represents the Shipping Chamber at the Board of Directors of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) in London and the European Community Shipowners’ Association (ECSA) in Brussels where, since 2015, he has also been appointed as Chairman of the ECSA State Aid Committee. Since November 2017, he has been appointed by the European Commission, to the Board of Directors of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) in Lisbon, representing European shipowners. He studied in the UK, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and a Master’s Degree in European & International Trade Law.

NATASA PILLIDES

Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Republic of Cyprus

Natasa Pilides was appointed Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry on July 10th 2020. Previously, on March 1st 2018 she had been appointed as the first Shipping Deputy Minister of the Republic of Cyprus, heading the strategic development and promotion of Cyprus as a world class, integrated, maritime cluster. From April 2016 to March 2018, Ms. Pilides was Director General of the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (Invest Cyprus), responsible for the design and implementation of Invest Cyprus’ strategy in investment promotion, investor support and facilitation of reform. She has more than fifteen years of private sector experience, notably as Director and Regional Chief Operating Officer at Baker Tilly South East Europe, heading the departments of Finance, Marketing, HR, and Administration, Operations and IT, for Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova. She also worked, for 9 years, at PwC in Cyprus, Milan and London, in audit and tax consulting of multinational companies active in the fields of banking and finance, shipping, insurance, energy, construction and FMCG.Ms. Pilides has wide experience in delivering professional training and courses for ICAEW, ACCA and CIMA exams, in the areas of audit, tax, corporate law, ethics, financial accounting and reporting, at BPP London, a leading professional studies organization. She graduated from Oxford University with a first-class honors degree, with distinction, in Modern Languages and Literature (French and Italian). She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC).

GEORGE CHRYSOCHOS

CEO, PEC

George Chrysochos is one of the Directors of Cyfield Group. He has been involved with the family business from a very young age, serving in all sectors of the business. Before joining the family business full time, he had worked in the United States and Greece, as a consultant for Navigant and Mckinsey & Company. He gained experience in multiple functions including strategy and operations, mergers and acquisitions and organizational restructuring in various industries. While working as a consultant he had day to day involvement with Cyfield, participating in key strategic and operational decisions. Upon his return, he led the Group in breaking into the Energy market. George graduated with a Highest Honors Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in Structural Engineering from Stanford University. DEMETRIOS CONSTANTINIDES

CEO, Bioland Energy Ltd

Demetrios Constantinides is the Founder and CEO of the Eptagon Group, a dynamically led company rooted in numerous business sectors which include renewable energy, construction, real estate, financial as well as the retail sectors. In 2012 Mr. Constantinides founded the Bioland Energy Group of Companies which has significantly grown over the past decade into an active renewable energy leader in Cyprus. The company itself offers solutions for home net metering, business net-billing but also more importantly the development of large-scale Solar PV parks which are situated all over Cyprus. Through the expansion of his renewable energy business Mr. Constantinides has further expanded the scope of the company in which the various subsidiaries under Bioland Holdings will retain the role of energy production and distribution. This will ultimately be seen through the subsidiaries Bioland Promithia and Bioland Energy Pyrolysis.

EUGENIA HERODOTOU

CEO, EnergyIntel Services Ltd

Eugenia Herodotou has completed her undergraduate studies in Economics & Finance and Minor Mathematics at the University of Indianapolis. In 2002 she was awarded a MSc in Economics, Finance and Management from University of Bristol. She is co-founder and co-owner of EnergyIntel since 2006. Eugenia is responsible for the General Management of all sectors within the company. Her work experiences the last 16 years were analyzing market trends and segments, studying competition, applying internally developed marketing plans, coordination of EU Funded Calls and further project implementation.

DR CHRISTOFOROS CHARALAMBOUS

Dr Christoforos Charalambous holds a BSc in Computer Science and a Master’s degree with specialization in Artificial Intelligence, both from the University of Manchester. He obtained his Doctorate from Brunel University in London. He has worked for more than two decades as an academic and researcher at Universities, having completed a significant number of externally funded research projects. From his position at Frederick University, Dr Charalambous has overseen the administrative restructuring of the University services and led the development of distance learning education. Additionally he oversees the adoption of state-of-the-art technologies and the development of novel solutions for the provision of a more efficient educational framework.

YANGOS HADJIYANNIS

CEO, The Cyprus Institute of Marketing (CIM)

Yangos Hadjiyannis has earned an LL.B. with a First Class Honours from the University of Nottingham, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies and LL.M. in International Law with a First Class Honours, both from the University of Cambridge. From 2008 to 2019, he was the Deputy Director-General of The Cyprus Institute of Marketing, in charge for business development and strategy. Since 2020 he is the Chief Executive Officer. He is a member of the Cyprus Advertising Control Agency, member of the Board of Director of the Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB) and President of OEB Committee on Education. He is a commentator for the local media on financial affairs and as such he is regularly hosted on TV and radio.

ANTONIS POLEMITIS

CEO, University of Nicosia

Antonis Polemitis currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the University of Nicosia and EDEX, as a Board member of EDEX and UNICAF, and as a member of the Council of the University of Nicosia. The University of Nicosia (UNIC) serves over 14,000 students, along with over 18,000 additional students in its affiliated academic institutions. UNIC is the largest university in Cyprus and is the largest English language university in southern Europe. Mr. Polemitis helped found the world-leading Digital Currency / Blockchain Initiative at the University of Nicosia, co-taught the first university cryptocurrency course in the world, and is regularly quoted as an expert on cryptocurrency issues. He was a member of the national committee that designed the blockchain strategy for Cyprus. Mr. Polemitis is the managing partner of Ledra Capital where he led early-stage investments in, or software development of, Software-as-a-Service platforms in the areas of higher education, cryptocurrency, online video publishing and legal research. Mr. Polemitis was previously a principal at ACG Capital, a privately held multi-billion dollar investment firm and a partner based in New York and London in the private equity practice of Mercer Management Consulting (now Oliver Wyman), one of the world’s leading strategy consultancies.

FLOROS VONIATIS

CEO, Chair of the Council & Founding Partner, University of Central Lancashire Cyprus (UCLan Cyprus)

Floros Voniatis was born in Famagusta, Cyprus and he is a graduate of City University of New York. Among other posts in the private sector, he is currently the Chief Executive Officer and the Chair of the Council of UCLan Cyprus. Floros started his career in the Banking and Finance Sector where he worked as a senior credit officer in a major international bank in Cyprus. His demanding post offered him a unique experience in understanding and dealing with the business plans, operations and the actual financial needs of the challenging entrepreneurial world. His business mind and ethics led him into a unique partnership with a UK public University, the University of Central Lancashire and into setting up the only British University Campus in Cyprus. He is known as the founder of UCLan Cyprus and since 2012 has devoted all his efforts to the growth of the university in numbers and in reputation through academic excellence. He has served as a board member in significant private infrastructural projects in the island. Currently, Mr. Voniatis is a Vice President at the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a Board Member of the Association of Large Investment Projects of Cyprus.

Dr. Andreas Assiotis

Member of the National Economy and Competitiveness Council

Andreas Assiotis is Group Chief Economist of Hellenic Bank Company Ltd, one of the three systemic banks in Cyprus, where he directs economic analysis and research. Andreas is also a member of the National Economic and Competitiveness Council of Cyprus and the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the country’s Long Term Economic Strategy. He also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Blockchain Technologies Center. He has published several journals in the areas of macroeconomics, economic development and growth. He has held both academic and consultancy positions to domestic and international organizations.

Managing Director, KPMG Cyprus

Christos V. Vasiliou joined KPMG in Cyprus in 1994 and became a Partner in 1999. Christos has been involved with the audit of large financial institutions including major banks, insurance companies and investment funds. In 2016 he was appointed as the Deputy Managing Director of KPMG in Cyprus and Managing Director in 2019. He also heads KPMG Advisory in Cyprus and is a member of the Executive Committee of KPMG in Cyprus.

CEO, Invest Cyprus

George Campanellas is the Chief Executive Officer of the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (Invest Cyprus). He has nearly twenty years of professional experience in Cyprus and abroad, working with the DG Competition in Brussels and directly with the Cypriot Ministers of Health and Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism. Mr. Campanellas has been actively involved with the development of the oil & gas sector in the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone, dealing with licensing, exploration and exploitation activities, as well as promoting bilateral and multilateral cooperation at a regional level. Throughout his career, he also had an active role in drafting the regulatory framework and running the relevant licensing procedures for attracting Foreign Direct Investment in sectors of strategic importance and large-scale infrastructure projects, such as the LNG terminal at Vasilikos Energy Center, Cyprus Techno Park, EuroAsia Interconnector and the City of Dreams Mediterranean, Europe’s largest integrated casino resort and Cyprus’ largest FDI project.
