The Wealth and Estate Planning Conference will provide practical and useful advice to affluent and HNWIs on the key elements of estate and wealth planning and how to pass it on to the next generation. Another objective is to convince the target audience to seek professional advice on estate planning.

Introduction

Many affluent and High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) have spent a lifetime building up their companies, their investments, and their wealth. For many, this journey was a long and difficult one. Financial success usually comes with commitment, hard work, perseverance, and personal sacrifices.

In Cyprus, family wealth is closely associated with the family business. Affluent and wealthy individuals and families increasingly own a diverse range of assets (company equity, cash, real estate, stocks, and bonds) often located in multiple countries.

Every HNWI will, at some point be asking: “How do I transfer what I own to the next generation? How can I ensure a fair allocation of my estate, according to my wishes, in accordance with the law, and in a way to ensure that this wealth is properly managed?

Affluent and High Net Worth Cypriot families are now at a critical crossroads. Most wealth in Cyprus was created during the four decades from 1970-2010, usually by a single entrepreneur. Most of these entrepreneurs are now at an age where the question of how to dispose of their wealth is very high on their agenda.

*This will be a physical event, held in compliance with all the public health regulations in force at the time, based on developments regarding COVID-19. The Ministry of Health has decreed that the event may take place in the presence of people holding a SafePass in the form of either: 1) Proof that you are fully vaccinated with both doses of an approved double-dose vaccine or with the Janssen single-dose vaccine;  2) Proof that you have contracted COVID-19 in the last 6 months (the release or recovery text message sent to your mobile phone by the Ministry of Health); 3) A negative PCR or rapid test certificate, dated no more than 72 hours before the event. Please have one of these three forms of SafePass with you and present it on request.

Peter Tangalos is Manager of the Wealth & Investment Services unit at Hellenic Bank. He has 20+ years international experience in the financial services sector with organizations including BNP Paribas Wealth Management, Barclays Wealth Management and ANZ Banking Group Limited. He has a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from Latrobe University, an MBA from Monash University and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance from the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA).

Dr. Hans-Jörg Naumer

Senior Investment Strategist - Global Capital Markets & Thematic Research, Allianz Global Investors

Dr. Hans-Jörg Naumer Ph.D. (54), Master of Economics, joined Allianz Global Investors in 2000 and is Director Global Capital Markets & Thematic Research. Before joining Allianz Global Investors, he worked for Société Générale, where he became the head of Research Germany and was part of the French investment bank’s international research team. His analyses were mainly directed at international institutional investors. From his vantage point as an analyst and economist, he observed the establishment of the Economic and Monetary Union and thus ranked among the “ECB Watchers” from the very beginning of the Euro. He started his professional career in the corporate banking division of Deutsche Bank in 1994. Dr Naumer has comprehensive experience in delivering speeches and presentations. His audience consists of high-net worth individuals, asset managers, investment advisors and institutional investors. The Capital Market Research is published in up to 8 languages and read all over the world. Dr Naumer studied economics at the University of Mannheim, one of the leading universities for economics and business studies in Germany. He received his Ph.D. (“Dr”) at the WHU – Otto- Beisheim-School of Management. His empirical thesis is on the trilogy of “Media, Minds and Markets”.

Dirk Reynders

Wealth Planning Advisor, Europe – APAC, UBS Switzerland AG

Dirk Reynders is a senior member of UBS’s WP Europe and APAC Team in Switzerland. The Team provides international legal, tax and regulatory consulting services to the bank’s European and Asian Ultra High Net Worth clients. His main areas of focus include estate and succession planning matters; next generation planning, family asset protection structures; legal, tax and regulatory / compliance issues relating to family offices; structuring of philanthropic projects; implementing trust and corporate holding structures; private fund structures and international relocation services. Before joining UBS, Dirk started his career as a Belgian lawyer. Afterwards he worked as a tax and legal specialist for financial institutions based in the Benelux. In these roles, he primarily worked with European UHNW families and families looking to relocate to Europe. Dirk joined UBS in 2013. Dirk has a masters degree in Law and Taxes from ‘Katholieke Universiteit Leuven’ in Belgium. He has published various articles on national and international tax topics. He is a frequent speaker at UBS conferences and external events. He used to be a guest lecturer at the University of Antwerp. Dirk is also a member of STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners).

Cosmas Cosma

Cosmas Cosma is currently acting as a Director at K. Treppides & Co Ltd and Finanz-Audit Limited, holding a BSc (Hons) in Economics and a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance. He is a fellow member of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountant (FCCA), a practicing member of Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC), a member of ISACA, an authorised approved person from Malta Gaming Authority and a member of the Cyprus Investment Fund Association (CIFA). Over the years he has specialized in the financial services industry, especially in Cyprus and Malta having an experience in the audit services of financial services companies, banking institutions, including regulated investment firm.

Charlotte Thorne

Charlotte Thorne is a founding partner of Capital Generation Partners, a multi award-winning investment management firm serving clients in the Ultra High Net Worth space. Charlotte designed and developed the firm’s discretionary platform and remains closely focussed on maintaining excellence in client service. Charlotte is a member of the firm’s three investment committees, bringing her understanding of client goals and their structuring needs to the investment process. She also chairs CapGen’s Business Risk Committee. Charlotte leads the firm’s connections with the wider private client industry – she has served as a STEP judge and as a member of the Panel of Experts and has written for a range of news outlets including national and industry titles. She has a background in financial policy having spent several years at HM Treasury advising Conservative and Labour Chancellors on issues including corporation tax and pensions policy before working in Brussels in the Diplomatic Service during the launch of the euro.
